John Muir Award - Y4

7th April 2017

Mr Harrison would like to offer eight Y4 children the opportunity to achieve a John Muir Award.  The John Muir Award is a UK wide environmental award scheme focussed on wild places.  It encourages and rewards children for discovering, exploring, conserving and sharing a wild space.  There are four challenges at the heart of the award

               Discover a wild place

               Explore it

Conserve it by carrying out a conservation project

               Share your experiences with others

Dates and Timings

The club will run after school on Thursdays from 3.00-4.30pm starting on Thursday 6 April 2017.  The ‘balsam bashing day’ will require a longer session but we will inform parents of this at the time.  Please see the attached letter for the scheme schedule – although dates/activities may change a little depending on volunteer availability, weather etc.

More information about the award can be found at https://www.johnmuirtrust.org/john-muir-award

Cost

The cost to attend the club is £33.00.  This will go towards resources and the children will be provided with a small snack and drink.  We will request payment once places have been confirmed.

Parent Volunteers

I require at least one parent volunteer for each of the sessions where we visit the river.  Please indicate on the attached reply slip if you are able to help.

Allocation of Places

If your child would like to attend please complete and return the attached reply slip.  This is an exciting project that will take place predominantly outdoors and will require real commitment and creativity on behalf of the children.  If we have more than 8 applications we will draw names from the hat.

Please return the reply slip no later than 9.00am on Friday this week – 31 March.  We will let you know on Friday afternoon if your child has been successful in obtaining a place.  We will then require payment to be made by the first session on Thursday 6 April.
