Harvest Stay and Play

We had so much fun sharing our Harvest celebrations with our families during our Stay and Play session. We have been working hard finding out about Harvest over the past few weeks and exploring the story of The Little Red Hen. Some of our exciting activities included decorating scarecrow biscuits, conker painting, setting up and playing with the small world farm, making hanging bird feeder decorations, moving wind mills and leaf hedgehog pictures. Outdoors we enjoyed exploring the garden to harvest vegetables in the planters, make vegetable soup in the mud kitchen and used golf tees and hammers in the potatoes to make our own models.
We rounded off our afternoon by singing our Harvest songs which we have had fun learning.
'Oh Conker Tree' and 'The Wheels on the Tractor'  were firm class favourites.
A big thank you to all of our families for coming to share this with us, we love sharing our learning experiences with you and value all of your feedback.

Thank you for joining us for our phonics and reading parent session this Spring term. We wanted to share with you how we teach phonics and reading at Corbridge First and provide an opportunity to answer any questions you may have.

We had a wonderful turnout, and hopefully, you feel more knowledgeable and confident regarding exploring phonics with your children after taking part in this session.

Please find attached the powerpoint from the session, and all relevant slides that concern the phonics teaching we will be covering within the early years foundation stage. As discussed, we follow the Read, Write Inc synthetic systematic approach to the teaching of phonics, therefore the powerpoint slides contain images of the phoneme cards we share with the children. These slides also contain the mnemonic for each phoneme which acts as a support for the children’s letter formation, e.g. Maisie mountain mountain.
