Y1 - phonics information session for parents

25th January 2017

Dear Parents and Carers

Year 1 – Phonics Information Session for parents/carers

Wednesday 25 January 2017 – 2.40pm

During the week beginning 12 June this year, our Year One pupils will be taking part in the National Phonics Screening Check.  The screening check is an indicator of how well children can use the phonics skills they have learnt so far to read words.

The check consists of 40 real and ‘alien’ (nonsense) words.  Children will complete the check on a one to one basis with ourselves.  The check will take around 10 minutes per child and we aim to make it a fun experience for the children.

In order to give further information on the process and how you can help your child with their phonic skills we are holding an information session on Wednesday 25 January 2017 at 2.40pm.  The playground gate will be open from 2.35pm to allow you to make your way to the classroom.

If you cannot make this meeting, please let us know by completing and returning the form on the attached letter and we will make sure the information reaches you.

Yours faithfully
