Y4 - Teaching Trees - Visit to Matfen Woods

15th February 2017

Y4 – Royal Forestry Society Teaching Trees – woodland visit - Wednesday 15 February 2017

Y4 will take part in a RFS Teaching Trees woodland visit at Matfen Woods on the afternoon of Wednesday 15 February 2017.  The visit links to our geography unit of work this half term.  The children will learn about the commercial uses of woodland and its importance to the local community.  They will also learn about the value of woodland for the environment and the wildlife that lives there.

We will be travelling by coach – leaving school at 12.30pm.  We will be back in school for 3.00pm.  The children will have lunch in school as usual.

Clothing

  • The children should wear their school sweatshirt and polo shirt and will also need to wear trousers suitable for a visit to Matften Woods.

  • Wellington Boots are essential as they will be walking through woodland.

  • Please also ensure that your child has a warm/waterproof coat.

Contribution

RFS kindly contribute £50 towards our transport costs for this visit.  In order for the visit to go ahead we need to ask parents/carers to pay a contribution to cover the remainder of the coach travel and the small charge made by Matfen for use of their facilities.  The cost of the visit will be £1.30 per child.  Payment can be made in cash or by cheque (cheques should be made payable to NCC – please mark your child’s name and Matfen Woods on the back of your cheque).  Please return the attached reply slip with your payment by Monday 13 February.

Photography

Teaching Trees would like to take some photographs of the children as they take part in this event.  Please indicate on the attached reply slip if you are happy to give your permission for photographs to be taken and used as detailed.  RFS state that no child will be individually identified in their material.
