Year 4 Rocket Science

29th April 2016

Year 4 Rocket Science! On 2 September 2015, two kilograms of rocket seed travelled from Baikonur, Kazakhstan on the Soyuz 44S rocket to the International Space Station.  The seeds were stored in microgravity by Tim Peake (the first British ESA astronaut) before their return to Earth this spring.  Schools have now received one red packet and one blue packet of rocket seeds – one of these packets contains the seeds that travelled to space and the other contains seeds that remained here on Earth.  Year 4 planted both sets of seeds earlier this week and they are looking forward to measuring and recording similarities or differences in plant growth between the two seed packets.  At the end of the experiment they will be entering their results into the national database where the findings will be analysed and published for everyone to see.  We’ll give you an update later on in the term as to how the seeds are doing and which pack the children think contain the space seeds!
