Dear Parent/Carer

Internet Safety and the use of Social Media

Corbridge Church of England First School is committed to promoting the safe and responsible use of the internet.  The local authority has brought to our attention that they received two reports last week of police investigations into the misuse of social networking platforms, specifically children being persuaded to ‘friend’ and interact with individuals who then act inappropriately towards them.

I am therefore writing to you today to remind you of the need to closely monitor your child’s internet activities, in particular their use of the latest apps, websites and games.  Please take a moment to visit the websites suggested below for advice on how to keep your child safe online.

The NSPCC has produced some excellent advice for parents on their ‘Share Aware’ website:

https://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/share-aware/

In addition, the ‘Net Aware’ site has specific advice on the 50+ most popular sites, games and apps used by young people.

Oovoo in particular has raised significant safety concerns and additional advice on this site can be found on the parentINFO / CEOP site:

Yours sincerely
