Message from the Chair of Governors

Address from Mr. Andrew Neal                                                                             10 November 2017

Chair of Governors November 2017

I am extremely proud to have been elected as the new Chair of Governors of Corbridge Church of England First School. The school provides a rich, varied and high quality education for the young people of our community delivered by a highly committed team. I very much look forward to continuing to build upon the strong working relationship I have established with Miss Ainsley during my time as Vice Chair.  As Chair of Governors I am committed to ensure that the children of the school benefit from the highest standards of education and care.

I would like to extend sincere thanks to the outgoing Chair David Watson who has been a very devoted and committed Chair. His experience and support has helped shape the school over the past four years. Mr Watson served the school providing support and challenge as the position requires. He will continue as a school Governor until his term is complete in January.

The Governing Body have approved a number of exciting projects for the new school year and we will keep you updated on their progress. Nationally school budgets are a concern, but we have well managed finances and constantly ensure value for money in the allocations we receive. This year we have enlisted the skills of a new school improvement partner who will continue to challenge us and ensure the standards and provision in the school are at the highest standards.

There have been a number of changes in the Governing Body and as posts are finalised our website will be updated accordingly. In July we said goodbye to Rvd David Hewlett, a long standing dedicated Governor, great friend and partner of the school. We currently await Rvd Hewlett’s replacement but continue to receive valued support from St. Andrew’s Church.

Ruth Forster’s term has also come to an end this month. Mrs Forster served her four year term actively monitoring Curriculum Subject Leadership and chairing the Curriculum Committee. She has been a key figure in supporting the school through change, and all the positive developments over the past four years.  I extend my sincere thanks for all she has helped achieved.

Our caretaker Andy Gardner has been appointed to the Staff Governor position this term and will join the Staffing, Finance and Premises Committee.  I very much look forward to working with him.

We have also welcomed Liz Collins who joins the team as a Parish Church Council nominated Governor. Mrs Collins has been elected as Chair of the Curriculum Committee and will continue the work with Subject Leaders in school. Mrs Laura Horn was appointed to the governing body this summer and she will now step up to the post, Vice Chair of Governors. Your parent governor, Mr Andy Patton has been appointed Chair of the Staffing, Finance and Premises Committee.

Finally I would like to extend my thanks to Miss Ainsley and all the staff. As Governors we are privileged to see the great work happening in the school through our monitoring and visits. Through monitoring, and also by speaking to parents and children, it is clear to see that this is a thriving school and a great environment to learn which is a testament to the hard work, and dedication of the staff and our wonderful children.

Best wishes,

Andrew Neal
