Global Goals at Corbridge CE First School
Corbridge CE First School has a big heart and a passion for supporting the local community and the wider world. All members of our school community take an active role in looking after God’s world. We pride ourselves on acting with dignity and integrity and ask children and adults alike to work together to build a fairer and more sustainable world for everyone. We are striving to maintain our status as a Climate Friendly School and limit the impact that we have upon the climate and the planet. The work we carry out in school fully supports both Northumberland County Council’s and the DfE’s aim to be Net Zero by 2030.
On entry to reception, the children are introduced to the United Nation's Global Goals in an age-appropriate way. The work they begin in reception continues and builds throughout their time in school. We want our children to become courageous advocates therefore each class chooses a Global Goal to concentrate their efforts. They work to promote and champion their chosen goal in many different ways throughout the school year before moving onto the next class and a new Global Goal.
Our chosen goal: Reception
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
We chose this goal for our youngest learners for many reasons. We want our children to grow up knowing that they have a choice when it comes to consumption. In reception we ask children to be responsible consumption champions by only using reusable water bottles, minimising food waste at lunch time and snack time effectively by using a compost bin and feeding leftovers to our hungry school chickens! We also teach them to respect and look after resources effectively and using only what we need.Â
Recycling
We will teach our children the importance of recycling using unwanted photocopying and scrap paper in our writing area and  we love reusing recycled items to make some amazing creations at our junk modelling table!Â
